Due to the strict encryption MoneyWorks® uses to protect your data, it is not possible to simply reset a forgotten password the way you might with a web app. Instead, the process involves removing the existing user account and creating a new one with fresh credentials.
Important: Your account administrator must be involved in this process. If you are the sole administrator and have forgotten your password, contact our support team before proceeding.
What you'll need
- Access to the MoneyWorks® company file
- Another user account with administrator privileges, or the ability to open the file (if it is not password-protected at the file level)
Step-by-step process
- Open the company file using an account with Administrator access
- Go to Setup → Users
- Select the user whose password needs resetting
- Click Delete to remove the existing user account
- Click New to create a fresh user with the same name and permissions
- Set a new password and confirm it
- Click OK — the user can now log in with the new credentials
After resetting
The user should change their password again on first login via File → Change Password. Encryption keys are regenerated automatically — no data is lost in this process.
Still stuck?
If you're locked out entirely or don't have another administrator account, submit a support ticket and we'll guide you through the recovery process.
